Divided
Oak, steel, oil pastel on katikata
20' x 2' x 4'
2024
Divided explores the material qualities of wood through by using a wedge to deconstruct a section of an oak tree. This was primarily a process driven piece that focused on relying on the natural checking of the material to determine the starting points of the split and letting the woodgrain steer the direction of the separation resulting in a series of fragmented pieces. As displayed, Divided references our society’s methods of dividing land as well as the political state of our country at the moment. The prints shown document the original and shape of the section of tree that was then brutally ripped apart.
